From what I understand, the “lights” are infrared. You can not see them, and the fish can not see them either, that is the point of them. If you can go in a dark and turn on the camera, you should be able to see a little bit on the screen. (The reason I say a little bit is beacuase it depends on the size of the room.) You should be fine on the water.

The far right twisting knob that says, “Min Max” is the control for the lights.
The lights aren’t infrared on those models- just red LED’s. (I own that same model!)
If the lights fail to work when dialed to “max” purchase an after-market LED submersible light to attach to your camera unit.
Do a search for an “Aqua View Underwater Flood Light” ($19.99)
should have some.
